Important Information for Families
In light of recent media coverage involving a former childcare worker now facing serious charges, we want to share the following with our families:
- Based on the information provided to us by authorities, the individual in question (Joshua Dale Brown) has never worked at our centre.
- We have not been contacted by Victoria Police or any government agency in relation to this matter.
- The safety and wellbeing of children in our care is always our highest priority.

Here’s how we ensure a safe, supportive environment for every child:
- Robust recruitment and screening, including:
- Mandatory safeguarding (child safety) questions in every interview
- Clear conversations about why an applicant left their previous role
- Verification of these details with two professional referees
- Referees are asked specific questions about the applicant’s suitability to work with children
- We go beyond the minimum checks. Working With Children Checks and Police Checks are just one part of our process.
We have clear child safety procedures in place, including strict rules that staff are never alone one-on-one with a child and ongoing, visible supervision at all times. Our full policies and procedures are available for families to view at any time. https://ygeelong.org.au/about-us/safeguarding-children-young-people-ymca
