Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of who we are.
How we connect to others defines our sense of identity and belonging and contributes to our health and wellbeing.
The Y is committed to embracing and encouraging diversity. We strive to provide opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race, age, language, gender, country of origin, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
Our goal is to provide accessible and responsive services for everyone knowing that this can impact on their health, wellbeing, and participation in the life and in their community.
The Y provides opportunities for diversity and inclusion including LGBTI+, and provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of our Association’s Reconciliation Action Plan which will be a focus of our work in 2021.
Inclusion Programs
The Y offers a number of inclusive programs to cater for the varying abilities of our participants.
All participants are offered the opportunity to be involved in the key programs offered on-site with adjustments made to include their needs.
All participants will be asked to consent to the programs they are signed up for. This may mean working with an advocate for the individual; however, the individual should not be overlooked and will be kept involved in conversations around their programs and activities. Advocates may be caseworkers, parents or carers.
The Y Core Values
The Y has adopted the following values to deliver our mission:
- Honesty means integrity, trustworthiness and fairness
- Respect means acceptance, empathy, self -respect and tolerance
- Caring means compassion, forgiveness, generosity and kindness
- Responsibility means commitment, courage, trustworthiness and service
- Safety means commitment to being a child safe organisation and to the health and safety of others.
The Y believes our statement “we believe in the power of inspired young people” is not just a statement but a commitment!
We have talented and committed people of all ages and abilities in our teams and without diversity, we wouldn’t reflect the communities we serve.
Intergenerational leadership is part of the culture of the Y.
We encourage and seek our people with experience and expertise to share their knowledge and skills with younger people, and we listen to and encourage younger people to contribute to the change and development of our Y through their ideas, talents and skills.
We welcome and acknowledge that diversity and inclusion are at the heart of who we are. How we connect to others defines our sense of identity and belonging and contributes to our health and wellbeing.
